Greensboro's rich and diverse arts community is a wonderful addition to this already charming city. Various events and festivals throughout the year are sure to entertain as well as educate, the most famous being the Eastern Music Festival, a six-week professional concert series beginning in June. Other key cultural attractions include the Greensboro Historical Museum, which explores the history of the region, and the Greensboro Children's Museum, a fascinating museum for kids of all ages.

History
Named for a Revolutionary War general who was decisive in the defeat of the British Army, Greensboro developed into a central transportation hub due to the development of the railroad line through the city. Greensboro's location and centrality made it a major center for trade, and the city grew exponentially during the 1800s. It was a central location during the American Civil War, and even became the temporary capitol of the Confederacy. Post-Civil War development of the textile industry further developed the town into a major city, and the city continues to grow through today, becoming a major tourist destination for those interested in North Carolina history.
